From requests
to results
What the villages asked for, and what has been done so far.
In late 2025 a socio-economic study around the Gamboma concession described the daily situation: roads in a poor state, most boreholes out of order, one health centre for the area, primary schools with a single teacher for several classes, no market and no electricity. The villages' requests reflect these needs.
Roads, Gamboma
What was asked
In the group discussions, road access was raised in every village, followed by jobs for young people, drinking water and health care. Each district submitted its requests to the project. They were negotiated with the Prefecture, the Ministry of Forest Economy, the local administration and representatives of the village chiefs, and set out in a Cahier des Charges signed in February 2026.
What has been done
Rehabilitation of community roads was officially launched with the local authorities in June 2026 and is inspected on site by the departmental authorities. By August 2026 one of the three road axes, about 23 km, had been completed, about 8 km of the 48 km axis had been rehabilitated, and 4 km of a main avenue in Gamboma town had been rehabilitated at the request of the local authorities.
What residents report
A survey by AFOREST CONGO along the town avenue in September and October 2026 counted 53 businesses, 28 of them opened since the works, and six new buildings, including a school. Residents interviewed describe easier travel and better access to shops and services.
Other commitments, Gamboma
The Cahier des Charges also includes school buildings in durable materials in eight villages, drinking water, a bridge, vocational training for young people and support for health care. Their timing is set by a joint commission of the Ministry of Forest Economy, the Prefecture and AFOREST CONGO.
Massangui
Residents asked for jobs for young people, better roads and someone to talk to in each village. Around 120 people from nearby villages have worked on the trial plot, AGRICAF CONGO supported a local association that repaired the 52 km road between Mouyondzi and Kingoué, and local contact people have been appointed in the villages.
Jobs
Recruitment gives priority to the villages of the project area. The road works at Gamboma and the trial plot at Massangui employ people from the surrounding villages.
Carbon revenues
Under Congolese law, part of the carbon credit royalty goes to the local authorities of the project area, to be used for social projects.
